Cleaning your strawberries will not only make them cleaner, but they will last longer, and it will save you money.
What you will need:
- Bowl
- Water
- Teaspoon
- Baking soda
- Slotted spoon
- Colander
- Drying cloth
- Optional: paper towel
Instructions:
1. Fill a bowl with water and add 1 teaspoon of baking soda.

2. Place berries in the baking soda water mixture and wait and gently mix the berries around. Wait 10-15 minutes.

3. Next transfer the strawberries to the colander. You don’t want to dump the strawberries into the colander from the bowl because the water will be dirty and the dirt that settles to the bottom might get on your strawberries again. Instead, use a slotted spoon to transfer the strawberries from the bottle to the colander.

Be prepared to be amazed at how much dirt was on your strawberries. The first time I did this, the water looked muddy! The picture on the right was after I dumped the water down the drain.

4. Rinse the strawberries in the colander.

5. Dry the strawberries on a cloth.

6. Once dry put the strawberries back into the container of your choice. You can reuse the plastic container they come in. Optional: You may put a paper towel in your container to soak up any additional moisture.

Additional Notes:
- Since using this method, I have had strawberries keep for up to 2 weeks!
- You can apply this same method to other berries such as blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries.
